Gearing up to take my Lunch Bags out to Market again this Saturday. The BrisStyle Indie Mother and Child Market will be pretty in pink on Saturday October 9 at St. Augustine's, Racecourse Road, Hamilton.

There'll be a host of extra special goodies and fun on the day. Our BrisStyle Indie Colouring Competition will be back with winners receiving a gift voucher to spend at any of our upcoming markets.

The girls wanted to make some dolls over the weekend. They are super cute and I am surprised how much I enjoyed making them. Each one looks different when you add new hairstyles, ribbons, different coloured dresses. The pink one is my favourite so far. I have many more to make now with Christmas coming!

I made them into little notebooks by sewing some sheets of white paper inside and they will be delivered to the class friends today, last day of school term before Easter.

Prime Real Estate - BonTons Craft Space

My daughter decided to move her desk out of my craft room last week so some prime real estate has made itself available!! I am very excited to fill this space but a bit sad that she has moved on even though her space was mainly her dumping zone.

It's a whole corner space complete with 1 shelf and power supply. I don't want to fill this space with storage tubs and supplies. I'm hoping it will be a useful productive space. Some more pics in the future as how this space is transformed so stay tuned!

Gocco Love

I decided to buy a Gocco machine after watching a youtube from the Etsy Labs. It looked fun and great for the kids to use.

After some research I discovered that the Riso Company has since ceased making Gocco machines and supplies and it has become more expensive to buy Gocco machines and source the supplies to use them.

Some hesitation set in and decided against the idea. Then I was searching radomly and found one (it was meant to be!) with inks, screens and bulbs to allow us to start straight away.

Now the kids love to Gocco, the process is so easy. Check out BonTonKids.etsy.com as they have so much fun using the Gocco and they insist on sharing their craft with the world, why not they're pretty good little artists.

When supplies are depleated or so expensive that I can't afford it anymore, then they will just have to remember the good old days when they had this really cool screenprinting machine from Japan to use.

Make your own Tutu DIY

I always wondered how to make my own Tutu. So a quick google search reveals many tutorials available. Loads of hints and ideas and a wonderful range of colour combinations to make that perfect tutu.

We had a birthday recently so I decided to put these new tutu skills to use. This is a very simplified version of what I did, do a search you will find a lot of tutorials available.

There are so many different colours of tulle, choose some soft tulle so it's not too scratchy. I chose 5 colours for a rainbow looking tutu. Cut into 3 inch strips, fold in half this will be the length of your tutu. Snip the ends (not the folded end) off to create a fish tail effect.

Measure the waistline of the tutu wearer and add extra to either side. You can use ribbon or elastic. Tie the ribbon or elastic together into a circle. Stretch onto the back of a chair, this handy hint made it easy to tie the strips on.

Gather 3 strips of tulle together, I used different colours each time, and work your way around the elastic or ribbon. Measure as you go to fit the tutu wearer.

I'm very happy with the results and this year will be the year all little girls we know will be receiving a tutu for their birthday!

Movie World Family Adventure

We've had a couple of birthdays here in the last week so we decided to have a family adventure to Movie World on the Gold Coast. It was fantastic, rides for all ages and whilst I went on the "Family" rated roller coaster, that was scary enough for me. We highly recommend the 4D Shrek show, but not for little kids, the boy got a lot scared.

Lots of chocolate cake and green jelly has been eaten also a lot of candle blowing and wishes

Sewing for the Man

I've had a short break for Christmas after the rush for Personalised Santa Sacks in my Etsy shop - www.BonTons.etsy.com ended just before Santa arrived.

In that time I got an order from the Man for me to sew him a pouch for his GPS that he received for Christmas.

Custom request - it needed a clip added so it could be attached to the outside of a back pack when walking and have a plastic insert so the screen wouldn't get pushed in.

Turned out nicely. He was a bit worried when I showed him similar zip pouches I had in girly fabrics. Manly and I think he even likes the little compass embroidery!

School's Out

Another school year done and dusted. Time for holidays, going to the pool and trying to stay cool in this 38 degree C heat.

The girls received so many Candy canes this year, too bad one does not like them.

Our Owl gifts were the best! Kids all over said they loved them, which made me happy!

My plans to make Teacher gifts this year was over run by many Personalised Santa Sack orders, 5 Personalised towels for the weekend marathon of birthday parties, and of course the million owls we made as Christmas gifts to all our school friends!

Every year at the end of the school year the kids receive a lot of Candy Canes from their class mates. Last year we gave little felt Christmas trees ornaments complete with google eyes and smiley faces.

Fabric Gift Tag Tutorial

Fabric Gift Tag Tutorial

With the Christmas Holidays so close I decided to do a tutorial for some fantastic Fabric Gift Tags that will adorn your holiday parcels. It is a no sew tutorial, for all my friends that don't sew!

Here's what you'll need -

Gorgeous Fabric - mine was supplied by FabricFusion.etsy.com
Fusible Webbing (vliseofix)
Cardstock
Ribbon
Rotary cutter or scissors
Hole Punch
Ruler
Iron

Cut Fusible webbing to size desired, each finished tag measures 2” x 3”, so if you want to make 12 tags cut 6” x 12”

Iron Fusible webbing (vliseofix) onto wrong side of fabric. Make sure the glue side of Fusible Webbing is on the fabric or you will have a sticky mess on your iron. Cut fabric to measured fusible webbing. Peel off the paper.

Place fabric on cardstock, printed side of fabric up and iron in place.

Cut into strips 2” strips then cut into 3” rectangles

Use a hole punch to carefully make a hole for ribbon or string. You may find that the fabric gets caught a little in the hole punch, gently snip with sharp scissors. Cut the corners of one end for a real tag look.

Attach ribbon, write a lovely message on the back and attach to your parcel!

So I am in love with making bags at the moment. Recently I purchased my first bag pattern from Nicole Mallalieu Design you might remember to make my own bag see here

I was so happy with the instructions and the way the bag turned out I asked the girls is this family what type of Nicole M Design bag they liked. Of course they all liked different patterns so of course purchased a few more patterns!

Here is the first of the many bags I will be making in the future! Large slouch bag, sits so nicely across the body. I surprised myself that I managed a zipper closure and an adjustable strap!

Sewing something new!

Sometimes you get a request to make something that you don't ordinarily make but it can sometimes turn into something pretty darn good.

I made these oven mitts using the last piece of my all time favourite butterfly fabric. I added a few layers of wadding because I don't want fingers to get burnt.

These lovely Oven Mitts are flying away to Mandy's house from Beadsme. If I don't get them in a parcel soon and in the post box I'll fall too in love with them and have to keep them for myself!

Guide Dogs!

Our family is full of dog lovers here so when the Guide Dogs Centre had an Open Day Fund Raiser we just had to go.

There were dog shows, tours of the buildings, and loads of guide dogs in training roaming the grounds with their trainers.

We had a wonderful day, with a lot of fluffy dogs being purchased with some well earned pocket money.

There was a coloring in competition, another thing we love here is coloring in! This morning I got a phone call to say that one of the girls won the prize in her age group. She was very happy about winning!

Finally FInished Week 5

My Carry All Bag was beginning to look like it might end up in the Work in Progress tub but I'm happy to say that it's Finally Finished. It really didn't take me long to make once I sat down and didn't let anything get in the way. I made a decision to make it reversible so I could have 2 bags in one!

I chose the red and blue fabric from my stash to begin with, I'm very happy with how it looks.

Then for the reversible inside of the bag. I used a recyled denim skirt and some cute lady bird fabric from my stash. I really like how this one looks to! So turn it inside out and this is another bag!

I used it today filled with all the necessities, food and drink, phone, money, key, nappies and more food.

The pattern was designed by Nicole Mallalieu

Finally Finished! Week 4

Finally finished another Work in Progress from the tub. I remember that I just had to have this market/vendor apron so everything stopped so I could sew it up. Well, I mustn't have wanted it too badly because there it was almost finished. The photo is a bit blurry because I had to take it of myself in the mirror

I baked some of my favorite Choc chip Cookies, mind you I've already eaten 3 and the apron worked a treat.

My challenge to complete an unfinished craft project is going well so far and I'm quite pleased with my progress.

The girls went and visited an old school on the weekend. Very "Little House on the Prairie" style set up.

They got to write on slates with chalk and complained about the uncomfortable chairs. It was so different to today's class room.

Finally Finished! Week 3

Another week goes by so quickly. I've been busy preparing for the arrival of the In-Laws week end stay and completing a few orders but I managed to continue my challenge with finishing another Work In Progress (WIP).

When I saw these little zip pouches with a clear side, I thought what a fantastic way to organise stuff and see what is inside without having to open each one. The plan was to make loads of them, but it didn't happen. This one was started and then ended up in that all too familiar pile of unfinished projects.

I love the red spotted fabric and now we can see what is inside. At least some hair ties will be organised.....

Finally Finished! Week 2

This week I had a couple of cute personalised pillowcases to make as well as my challenge!

I'm so pleased to be on track with my challenge. Can you believe this beautiful Blue Quilt only needed the binding hand stitched down (not my most favorite job obviously) quilting threads cut off and basting pins removed. I must have been going thru a bit of a blue theme at one stage, whilst digging in my Works in Progress (WIP's) box I found another quilt top with Blue Dresden Plates and Irish Chain blocks.

Technically I'm not finished until the label gets sewn on, all going well I'll do that tonight, then choose another project that needs completing. My bag hasn't been started yet but I have chosen fabrics and zipper and buckles, does that fit in as a WIP, we'll see next week!

Finally Finished! Week 1

Like many crafters and quilters out there, I have a lot of unfinished projects (UFO's), works in progress(WIP's) that have been tossed into a tub for another day, for reasons due to always busy family life, projects I fell out of love with and of course many new and exciting projects I just had to try!

I've decided to set myself a little challenge and try and go through this tub full of magical treasures and start completing them one by one. Of course there is a weekly time limit so that I can share them all with you, that might be a bit ambitious.

Here's the first one. I love butterflies and have had these beauties sitting in the tub for a few years now. Lovely Batik fabric really complimented them and some stipple quilting. I'm very happy with how it turned out and it's up and hanging on the wall already.

Now that wasn't so hard was it, best go and see what I'll finish up next, I have a week right!

The day started early here. A nice 4 am wake up call thanks to the little man. Made my own breakfast, it was early.

As the sun came up the girls finally got out of bed and it was time to open all the lovely goodies for me. A lovely frame, some lovely pj's for winter as it is getting a little chilly when the sun goes down a wind up mobile phone charger because mine is never charged when I actually use it and Chocolate of course!

I had a relaxing day then went roller skating with the girls in the afternoon. It was great as there were only a few skaters at the skating rink. It's been a long time since I skated but I managed to stay on my feet!

Bags Bags Bags!

I've been carrying my poor old falling apart bag for a while now, debating on whether I was going to buy one or make my own. I am very happy to have found an Australian Bag designer - Nicole Mallalieu

Looking at her bag pattern range I knew the decision to choose one would be difficult. I had to decide which pattern would be best suited to my needs. It's got to be spacious enough to hold my stuff and everyone elses stuff, drink bottles, food, phone, I Pods, toys and Nappies. I would love to carry a cute little Hobo or Slouch bag but I don't think it will hold all the stuff.

Now my next dilema is my fabric choices. So many beautiful ones to choose from. I'll keep you posted on what I decide.

Stitches and Craft Show

It was a girls weekend so we went to the craft show that was on. I was a little disappointed with it but the girls and I managed to stay the whole day.

Our first stop was to pick up the apron I won on the BrisStyle Blog. We met lovely Louise from Made by Miffy who actually made the apron. Later in the day we made her No Sew Flowers.

The apron was worn all day at the Craft show and received loads of lovely comments!

It was a nice day to be out with the girls and we got home just in time for dinner.

Dust Team Swap April 2009

We stayed in a lovely canal front home so we could take our little doggy along with us.

There was a gorgeous pool that the kids loved to jump in at anytime of the day. We had a little boat to use around the canals. The kids loved being pulled behind it on the kayaks!

We went to the Mountains and visited Tropical Fruit World tasting some yummy fruits, and Thunderbird Park

mining for Thunder Eggs.

The kids went snorkeling and fishing.

The little man loved to dig in the canal and would do it all day if you let him.

The beaches were amazing!

Treasury love

I've had some Etsy treasury love lately, and have seen how people add them to their blogs. I finally worked out how to do it. Above is a lovely treasury first timer Angelene from "Jewellery by Ange" She has done a lovely job at her first ever treasury and included my Music Notebook Organiser.

I finally caught up on a friends blog she has a great recipe Benihana Japanese Fried Rice Recipe

I must try it soon.

Only 4 days till Easter break and I'll have a bit over a week without having to make school lunches, no reading groups, no early morning tennis, no Drama classes, no Rock climbing and best of all NO Homework YAY!

I think I will go to the local craft shop Spotlight and get some supplies for the kids school holiday activities. Anyone got some ideas, I'd love to hear them, we love craft!

Well, at the moment one of my girls actually thinks when she goes to bed I do actually become Wonder Women and go out and rescue people. It kinda surprised me when she told me. I wonder if she wants to grow up just like me (Wonder Woman!) lol

It's cooled down a little with winter on its way, time to put on my favourite Wonder Woman Slippers. Those are not actually my legs!

There was cake on the actual day, then at the Roller skating party ( I did not skate!) and then again for another birthday. I must say, I do love birthday cake. Cookies and Cream Ice cream cake especially!

Time for Green Dreams

I joined the DUST team on Etsy. It's a group of other Aussies that sell on Etsy. I've met some great people and found some great Australian Etsy shops too.

Every month they have a Sale theme. For the month of March we are going green. With the bushfires and the floods happening here now, we want some green to come back to Australia.

Sleep deprivation and creativity

I've had a few sleepless nights with restless children, so I've been feeling tired and down. But it's birthday week this week for the 2 little ones so I've been making some new things. This year is a roller skating party where they provide everything even the goody bag. The plan was so I didn't have to do anything as it is so hectic around here at the moment. But I had to make some party favours and came up with these - Chalk Board Door Hanger Bag, filled with chalk and tissues!

Sharing the pets

So I've been reading about everyones pet doggies and I thought I would share ours. He's a little Shih-tzu called "Mister", lucky because when we first got him he nearly got stuck with the name "Pom Pom" which wasn't very manly. Here is covered in chalk that he rolled in after the girls had done some huge chalk drawings on the ground.

I bought a gorgeous pendant from this Etsy shop made for my eldest daughter with this pic on the front and on the back is her dressed up as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and he was her Toto. It arrived the other day and looks great!

I won't mention all the awful stuff that he does, must be a boy thing. He really is a cute little caramel soft cuddly dog and we love him to bits!

Donating to Bush Fire Appeal Australia

Ok so I'm blogging again, I know you are amazed but I had to spread the word about this terrible disaster that is happening in Australia right now. Complete destruction, homes burnt down, families lose everything, many many lives lost and the fires still burn. I am not a reporter so if you want pics and details go see the news, google it, it should be everywhere.

This is the bit I want to tell you about. People from all over have donated handmade goods to sell. All proceeds go to the Bush Fire Appeal. Go visit this blog and this Etsy Shop OzBushfireAppeal See what its all about, you can help spread the word, donate or buy.

Won Ton Soup Recipe

So I'm making this right now, WonTon Soup. Delicious, delightful dumplings! You want the recipe, here we go

WonTon Soup - straight from my kitchen!

250g packet of fresh WonTon wrappers
2 litres stock ( you make it how you like it)
500g chicken mince
1 egg
chilli sauce
soy sauce

So add your stock to the pot, add the chilli sauce and soy sauce (I don't measure, add how much you like) Bring to the boil.

While you are waiting for the soup to boil, make the little dumplings. Put the chicken mince in a bowl with the egg and mix until combined with a fork. Lay the wrappers out on the bench and put about 1 -2 teaspoon of the chicken on each.

Now for the tricky bit, have a small bowl of water to dip your finger in here. Wet 2 sides of the dumpling with your finger, then fold over diagonal to form a triangle. Now bring the 2 points up to the middle, twist a little forming a little dumpling.

Okay, so the soup is boiling, add those dumplings and let cook for 20-25 minutes. They will smell awesome.

Ladel some out and eat, no time to add pretty embelishments.

Back to School Blues

Another long holiday over. The bags were packed, books covered and uniforms nice and clean. Yummy sandwiches for school lunches!

No one had the blues about going back to school, they were up bright and early and ready to go, though I think the little man is going to miss his girls.

It's very exciting to be in new grade, new teacher and seeing all our friends again.

The girls did manage to get Dad to build something again this holidays, I'll show you that another time!

Did you have a chocolate.....

Chocolate doesn't last long in this house, by the time everyone has one. Someone walks out with one, then one by one I'm handing them out.

We've been nibbling these little delightful morsels and noticed on the wrapper there is a little phrase, a bit like a fortune cookie, but not a fortune. So I thought I'd share some with you.

What the kids are up to....

It's been an exciting school holidays. We are a pretty creative bunch, Woodworking Dad, Sewing Mum, Kids that love paper and paint! The kids have been creating up a storm. The Big One has admired my Etsy store and has wanted to add some of her stuff for ages.

I opened a Section called BonTonsKids for them. Not so sure about going and opening a new Etsy Shop. Within a couple of days, hearts appeared and before the excitement wore off, an item was featured in an Awesome Treasury!

So with the school holidays almost over, I still have the inevitable task of covering all the new school books with all the lovely paper and contact adhesive we've been collecting. I must say, this is not an activity I'm looking forward to.

So Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I always stuggle to find that perfect little gift.We aren't the most romantic couple in the world, but we do exchange small gifts on Valentines Day.

This year I'm organised, I've made just the thing for the love of my life! I am excited. He's been there and supported my Personalised Pillowcases. I've sold heaps, made heaps for the kids and given heaps away as gifts. Poor guy can never find one in the house for his own use, well, now he's set. Hope he likes it!
